The
Greatest Gift -- You
During the Christmas season, the
word “gift” is universally uttered, as
it is a time of giving and a time of receiving.
As we are high-spirited during this time of year,
it is vital to realize the importance of one gift
that can frequently be given -- the gift of self.
Today, Christmas Day, 2002, I will
find myself under the same roof with my
five-generational maternal family, as my husband,
2 children, and I, join my 7 siblings, 28 nieces
and nephews, 23 great nieces and nephews,
grandmother, cousins, and friends, as my mom
prepares our annual Christmas feast. A feast that
she not only purchases, but also exhaustingly
prepares with her love and soul. Oh, what a
blessing to be immersed in abundant love and
solidarity -- a love and amity that stems from my
mom's gift of love and self. Her inner wealth of
love and unselfishness radiates in the lives of
everyone that she touches, as she spreads the
gift of self.
It is not the price of the gift, but
the value of the gift that matters. The gift of
self comes in many different sizes and forms --
perhaps in the form of a compliment, a phone
call, or your time.
No amount of fame, fortune, or
wealth can compare with inner wealth, because as
my mom exemplifies, the gift of self spreads
endlessly – from one heart to another.
This season, remember that the
greatest gift that you can give – is the
gift of YOU.
